The Hula Hoop ® was created in 1958 and has been enjoyed by millions of children around the globe for many years. Recently we had the privilege of revisiting our childhood memories. It’s amazing how age changes our abilities to control the use of objects that at one time in our life seemed so simple.
Do you remember any of those great toys that you used to play with as a kid? If so, what were they? We would love to hear about them.
I think it is clear that I have the superior hoop skills! As far as the toys of yesteryear go, all I can say is I was the Pinball Wizard
One of my favorite toys growing up was a pogo stick. It was the old style with just a straight shaft and without the crossbars at the top…and definitely no tassels!!! I used to see if I could get to 1000 jumps without stopping and I finally made it one day. And by the way…I’m not sure I would brag about being a hula hoop expert…John!
I will have to say, my man can Hula. I loved playing Jacks and Pick-up Sticks on my Granny and Popsie’s kitchen floor, while she made us our favorite food for dinner(Mexican). Great memories.
My dad made stilts for me when I was young (8) at two different heights. I would walk around the entire house outside with my younger running along next to me.
My sister and I would play with the nerf Vortex football toy all day. We had a 3 story house in Washington state and one of us would stand in the back yard and the other in the front and throw the Vortex over the house to each other and listen to it whistle all the way over. We would also throw it straight up in the air over the power lines in the middle of the street. Yeah, we were safe. Haha

One of my favorite things to do growing up was ride a bike. I don’t even remember what kind of bike I had, but it didn’t matter. My bike would get me where I wanted to go and I could ride fast!!! Now, in my older age, I love to ride on the back of our motorcycle!
I remember playing with Barbies for hours and hours with Jackie. We always had some elaborate plot planned out and we would act out the stories. The funniest thing was that I used to always tell Jackie what I wanted her Barbie to say. She never much appreciated my input
Good times huh, Jac?
I could do the hula, way back when . . .
I also enjoyed frisbees and boomerangs!
I think Daniel Mount and Bre should do a hula hoop competition instead of a type-off this year at NQC!!! That I would pay to see!!
When I was a kid we were quite poor and could not afford toys. We had a neighborhood kid that had a little two wheel bike. I learned to ride it and I so longed to have one of my own. I only had an old tricycle and one back wheel came off. Well guess what I learned to balance that tricycle on two wheels. I had my bicycle and it didn’t cost me anything. Great fun with that toy.
well, i think i can honestly say I have played with everything mentioned above. Sadly, yes, even the barbies (i had 2 sisiers lol.) I espesially enjoyed riding my bike and jumping on my pogo. The thing i miss the most about my childhood though is the merry-go-round. Nothing compares to spinning around on that thing to the point of feeling sick. lol Wont find those around anymore. they are too “dangerous” lol good times.
Jacks, hula hoops, bicycles, marbles, and batons! I LOVED batons! My dad would buy me one every time he took me to the Fair Way (that was our Wal-Mart back then). I literally wore out those cheap little batons! Then – one Christmas – I got a baton! A REAL one! AND I STILL HAVE IT!!! Except now, when I through it in the air, I have to run away from it so I won’t get hit in the head! Ouch! Let’s just say I’ve had that baton for over 40 years! Hey, an antique! Priceless!
