Vocals are exactly what they seem. The singing part of the Cd. This is our part as vocalists to communicate to you the listener the heart of the song. Although it’s not as easy to do on a recording, as it is live and in concert. In studio you look for those magic moments. It’s not always about trying to sing well and on pitch, even though that is important. But we want to share the heart of Christ in every song. So sometimes it is waiting for just the right emotion in a line. We are now done with vocals and are excited about hearing the final result. I say it that way, because even we don’t get to hear the full songs until one of the later stages. But we are getting closer to having a new Cd in our hands.Yeah!!!

Stage 2 – Tracking
Tracking is the next stage of the Cd recording process. It is where all the musicians get together in the studio to create the instrumentation. Basically the foundation of the songs. It usually takes two days to record 10 songs. This includes piano, drums, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and then there is what we would call color instruments(dobro, fiddle, steel guitar, cello, etc.). After the basic tracks are completed we will send a few songs out for orchestration to be added.
We are now finished with our tracking and excited to say it went amazing. We have some of the best musicians in the industry (Jeff Collins-Piano and Keyboards, David Johnson-Acoustic Guitar, Dobro, Steel Guitar, Fiddle, Jeremy Medkiff-Bass, Electric Guitar and on Drums and Percussion is Tony Creasman.
There is also one very important person that I don’t want to leave out, Van Atkins(The Engineer). He sits behind the mixing board during the entire process. You will hear his named mentioned through each stage. We are very thankful for Van.

We are so excited to finally have begun our new Cd. There are many who have shown interest in the process of making a Cd and so we would like to invite you to join us on this journey. We will be posting a series entitled “Anatomy of a Cd”. Each post will contain a stage of the process.
Stage 1 – Song Selection/Songwriting
This is probably one of the most tedious, time consuming and important parts of making a Cd. Rich spends more time on this process than anyone. On this project it took listening to 100′s of songs to find 10. There are times when you put in 50 songs in a row and feel as if you will never find anything. Then all of a sudden a song starts playing that grabs your heart and you know that you’ve found something special. That happened over and over again for this recording. We are thankful to have songs on this project from amazing songwriters such as Kenna Turner West, Tony Wood, John Lemonis, Rebecca Peck and more…
We are finished with Stage I and so excited about the songs that God has lead us to. Be looking for our next post on Stage 2 – Tracking (will will be including photos/video).
